Setting Up Using Windows ME/2000 (Direct Dial-Up connection)

1. On the desktop, click on START, then PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, and then COMMUNICATIONS.
2. Click on the Hyperterminal program shortcut (see image below). This will launch the program and display the CONNECTION DESCRIPTION window.
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. In the NAME field, type "Dixie Sales" and click OK. This will bring up the PHONE NUMBER window.
   
   
   
   
   
4. In the AREA CODE field, enter "877." In the PHONE NUMBER field, enter "833-2537". This is a toll-free number. Click the OK button. This will bring up the CONNECT window.
   • It is assumed that the correct modem is selected under "Connect Using." If you are unsure, contact your hardware vendor.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Click on the MODIFY button. This will display the telephone number information you entered earlier.
   
   
   
   
   
6. At the top of the window, you will notice a SETTINGS tab. Click on this tab. Using the pull-down menu, change EMULATION from "Autodetect" by clicking on "VT100". Click the OK button. This will return you to the CONNECT window.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Click on DIALING PROPERTIES (located below MODIFY). If you have call waiting, you should disable it here because it could interfere with your connection (check with your telephone provider to see what is required). If your telephone system requires you to dial a digit to get an outside line, you can enter that information here also. When you are finished, click OK.
   
   
   
   
   
8. From the CONNECT window, click on DIAL. When your screen returns to the Hyperterminal window, a connection between your computer and the "Dixie Information Network" should exist. Press [ENTER] several times until you receive the logon prompt.
   • Note: Upon exiting, you will be asked if you want to save the session. Choose yes. For convenience you should move the "Dixie Sales" icon to your desktop. This is accomplished by dragging and dropping the icon from the Hyperterminal folder to the desktop.
   
   
9. At the "username" prompt, type your username and press [ENTER].
   
   
10. At the "password" prompt, type your password and press [ENTER]. Since passwords are for security, you will not see it appear on the screen. This is normal. If you make a mistake, an "authorization violation failure" message will appear. Try again by pressing [ENTER] and re-entering your username and password.
    
    

Dixie Information Network users will automatically be logged off if there is no keyboard activity for 2 minutes. If you were in the process of entering an order and are subsequently logged off, your order is automatically suspended. Please make note of your order number as soon as it is displayed for easy access in case of automatic log off.
